As part of Finland’s current EU presidency period Finland had the honor to host the Digital Transport Days conference in the Finlandia house in Helsinki 7 - 9. October. The Digital Transport Days conference covered all forms of transport on road, rail, air and sea and the aim of the days was to offer glimpses of the future of digital transport in European perspective.
Meritaito and the Intelligent Sea project where present in the conference exhibition and got the chance to present our project to the audience and some of the EU officials on place. Among others we got to present the project to the European commissioner of Transport Violeta Bulc and Director-General of Mobility and Transport in the European commission Henrik Hololei.
In the conference, as the name implies, new digital ways to improve the transport of goods and people in Europe and in some extent globally where sought.
One key element raised was information sharing, for instance the freight- and transport chain information of a single shipment, how to handle it as fast, efficiently and effortless as possible.
The Intelligent Seas project supports this goal well as one of the aims of the project is to improve the duration and efficiency of vessel and port communication by facilitating the communication through the 5G network both before the vessel enters port and after it has left it, enabling shorter and perhaps timely more precise port calls for the vessels.
